RSN Bracketology: First In-Season Bracket Update V.1 (12/18)

This bracket is a hybrid or mixture of what the field will look like if it was compiled at this moment as well as a bit of projection towards the rest of the season. With this, however, it is more on the side of what the field would look like today.

RSN Brief Review & Discussion (12/6)

Another week or so and more chaos in the college basketball world. From LiAngelo Ball to Lexus Williams’ halfcourt bomb, the season has yet to disappoint. Here are some recent talking points:

Villanova                      villanova_wildcats_logo   The Wildcats have held their ground as a consensus top-5 team thus far, but may not even be getting enough respect. This team is deep and as good as ever, easily handling Gonzaga last night in New York.

Miami                           miami_hurricanes_logo-svg   After an extremely impressive road win at Minnesota, the Canes returned home for two potential trap games, easily handling Princeton and Boston University. Interestingly enough, Miami’s next four games are all on the road against potentially similar teams in GW, Hawaii, Pittsburgh, and Georgia Tech. If Miami comes out of that stretch unscathed, they will find themselves in the Top-5.

Seton Hall                   seton_hall_pirates_logo   Following a heartbreaking last-second loss to Rhode Island, the Pirates have bounced back with three marquee power-5 wins. Neutral court victories in New York over Vanderbilt and Texas Tech were proceeded by a statement win at the Yum! in Louisville.

TCU                               tcu_athletics_logo-svg    TCU took down SMU last night in their first true test of the season. Even though it’s safe to say that TCU is for real by now – a sleeping giant in Nevada visits on Friday after nearly winning at Texas Tech earlier this week. That game could potentially go down to the wire as well.

Tennessee                    ut_volunteers_logo-svg   Though now ranked, the Vols have rather quietly put together some quality wins thus far. Victories over Purdue, NC State, and Georgia Tech may not be enough to label Tennessee as true SEC contenders, but it proves that they have the ability and chance to play into March.

Washington State      160px-Washington_State_Cougars_logo.svg   Ah. Just when we thought Washington State may just be a real story, they go and lose to UC Davis at home. Granted, it’s one game, but the Cougars can’t afford many more slip-ups as bad as this one.

Boise State                  boise_state_broncos_logo-svg   The Broncos are quietly one of the best shooting teams in the nation. When they’re on, they’re on. 5th in the country in 3-pointers, Chandler Hutchison and Co. picked up a remarkable win at Oregon, ending the nation’s longest active home winning streak with a half-court heave at the buzzer. Watch for Boise and Nevada to slug it out in an improved Mountain West this year – at-large bid(s) very possible.

Ball State                     i   Shoutout to the Cardinals! The MAC contenders went into South Bend and took down a top-10 Notre Dame squad with a last second 3-pointer. Ball State nearly took down Dayton on the road earlier this season as well.
