RSN Power Rankings (2/27)

Week 13

  1. Kansas (26-3)                           university_of_kansas_jayhawk_logo

Last week’s ranking:  3  (UP 2)

Kansas elevates to our top spot for the first time this season after extending their win streak to 6 games this week. Next up is a home date with Oklahoma, a game the Jayhawks will be heavily favored to win before embarking on a road trip to Oklahoma State. On a side note, it will be interesting to see how Kansas mentally progresses as it seems like nearly half the team has been in trouble off the court this season with Josh Jackson the latest culprit.

2. UCLA (26-3)                               ucla_bruins_logo

Last week’s ranking: 7 (UP 5)

After a two-game lull the Bruins have soared back into the top 5 with 7 straight wins. Most recently, UCLA took down Arizona at the McKale Center in a stunning road victory. Composed of an elite offensive core including Lonzo Ball, TJ Leaf, Bryce Alford, and Isaac Hamilton, which is virtually unstoppable on most days, UCLA looks like a major contender.

3. Villanova (27-3)                        villanova_wildcats_logo

Last week’s ranking: 2 (DOWN 1)

The Wildcats’ senior class came into the week having never lost a game at The Pavilion. That changed when Butler arrived on campus and took down Villanova in a strong and encouraging performance. All that’s remaining for Nova is a trip to lowly Georgetown, who recently fell on their home floor to DePaul.

4.  Gonzaga (29-1)                       gonzaga-logo

Last week’s ranking: 1 (DOWN 3)

They were that close. 29-0 and a home game to end the regular season. But guess who…BYU. Seemingly every year the Cougars take down the Zags in Spokane. Gonzaga is still very much in play for a 1 seed and will fight with Oregon, Louisville, and possibly UCLA for the final #1 spot.

5.  North Carolina (25-5)            university_of_north_carolina_tarheels_interlocking_nc_logo-svg

Last week’s ranking: 4 (DOWN 1)

North Carolina took care of business this week with an impressive home win over Louisville and a win in Pittsburgh. Sitting at first place in the ACC, a tough end to the regular season awaits with a trip to Virginia before returning home for their second tie with Duke.

6.  Oregon (24-4)                          oregonducks-svg

Last week’s ranking: 6 (-)

The Ducks claimed wins in both of their games this week but only won the two by a combined 5 points. Dillon Brooks’ heroics helped sink California before returning home for a narrow defeat of Stanford. All that is remaining for Oregon is a trip to Oregon State before the Pac 12 Tournament.

7. Louisville (23-6)                       i

Last week’s ranking: 9 (UP 2)

A disappointing effort at Chapel Hill early in the week was countered by a thrashing of Syracuse at the KFC Yum! Center. Remaining for Rick Pitino’s Cardinals is a road date at Wake Forest and a home tie with Notre Dame.

8. Kentucky (20-5)                      kentucky_wildcats_logo-svg

Last week’s ranking:  14 (UP 6)

Malik Monk led Kentucky to a huge win over Florida with his 4th 30-point game this season. The Wildcats host the up and coming Vanderbilt Commodores before embarking on their final road trip this season to College Station for a matchup with Texas A&M.

9. Arizona (26-4)                          university_of_arizona_block_a-svg

Last week’s ranking:  6 (DOWN 3)

This week, Arizona fell at home to a red-hot UCLA team. This came after a 5 game win streak that had the Wildcats on top of the Pac 12. All that remains is a rivalry game with Arizona State, who just knocked off USC in a nailbiter.

10. Butler (23-6)                          i

Last week’s ranking:  19 (UP 9)

Chris Holtmann and the Bulldogs soar into our top-10 after completing a sweep of Villanova at the Pavilion. Just a few days after their shocking upset, Butler traveled to a sputtering Xavier and sunk the Musketeers as well. In a final tune-up for the Big East Tournament, Seton Hall travels to Indianapolis on Saturday.
