Week 12

  1.  Gonzaga (28-0)                      gonzaga-logo

Last week’s ranking:  1  (-)

The Bulldogs cruised to another 2-win week and will almost surely head into postseason play undefeated. Gonzaga hosts BYU on Saturday in their regular season finale at 10 PM but have already clinched the #1 seed in the WCC Tournament.

2. Villanova (26-2)                        villanova_wildcats_logo

Last week’s ranking: 2 (-)

Villanova headed into a 3-game road trip with trips to Xavier, DePaul, and Seton Hall with just 2 losses on the season. They came out with that same total. Drubbings of Xavier and Seton Hall add to an already spectacular resume. Butler and Creighton both travel to Philadelphia in the next week as the Wildcats look to lock down a spot on the 1-line.

3.  Kansas (24-3)                            university_of_kansas_jayhawk_logo

Last week’s ranking: 3 (-)

Every week it seems like we’re here talking about how Kansas was bailed out at the end of a game by the referees. Well here we are back on what seems like Groundhog Day as Kansas was handed the game at Baylor on what looked to be a clear jump ball. Despite that, Kansas did impress with an insane comeback last Monday over West Virginia.

4.  North Carolina (23-5)            university_of_north_carolina_tarheels_interlocking_nc_logo-svg

Last week’s ranking: 9 (UP 5)

The Tar Heels have bounced back from a disappointing loss at Duke a few weeks back with two straight wins, the first of which officially ended the tenure of Mark Gottfried as the head coach at NC State. After taking down Virginia a few days ago, North Carolina hosts Louisville on Wednesday in a battle for the ACC lead.

5.  Baylor (22-3)                             baylor_university_athletics_logo-svg

Last week’s ranking: 4 (DOWN 1)

Many have hopped off the Baylor bandwagon after a two-game skid. However, we believe Baylor is for real after an impressive showing in their loss to Kansas. Next up is what should be the easiest game remaining for BU in a matchup withOklahoma.

6.  Oregon (24-4)                          oregonducks-svg

Last week’s ranking: 5 (DOWN 1)

It was an easy, quiet week in Oregon as the Ducks easily handled home games against Utah and Colorado, further extending the longest active home win streak in college basketball. Up next is a trip to California, where a loss could serve up an NCAA Tournament spot for the Golden Bears.

7. UCLA (24-3)                              ucla_bruins_logo

Last week’s ranking: 7 (-)

UCLA lost two in a row to Arizona and USC and plunged in the polls just a few weeks ago. Now, after a 5 game win streak, the Bruins are up to #5 in the AP Poll and #7 in our rankings. Lonzo Ball and Co. travel to Arizona for a huge matchup on Saturday.

8. Arizona (25-3)                         university_of_arizona_block_a-svg

Last week’s ranking:  6 (DOWN 2)

2 of the final 3 remaining games for Arizona are home ties with fellow NCAA Tournament teams (UCLA and USC). Two wins and a win at Arizona State will likely lock up a #2 seed for Sean Miller’s dangerous squad.

9. Louisville (22-5)                      i

Last week’s ranking:  8 (DOWN 1)

A drop in the rankings likely isn’t justified for Rick Pitino’s Cardinals after gritty wins over Syracuse and Virginia Tech. However, Louisville travels to Chapel Hill with an enormous game with North Carolina for the ACC lead.

10. Duke (22-5)                           duke_text_logo-svg

Last week’s ranking:  12 (UP 2)

Ah Duke. Personally, we hoped Duke would never return to the write-up section. But here they are, they’ve earned it. 7 straight wins in this year’s ACC is extremely impressive, including wins over UNC and road wins at Notre Dame and Virginia. Up next is a trip to the Carrier Dome for a date with the Orange

11. Florida  (-)

12. Purdue  (UP 2)

13. West Virginia  (DOWN 3)

14. Kentucky  (UP 5)

15. Wisconsin  (-)

16. Florida State (DOWN 3)

17. SMU  (-)

18. Cincinnati  (-)

19. Butler  (UP 3)

20. Maryland  (UP 1)

21. Virginia  (DOWN 5)

22. Dayton  (UP 3)

23. Virginia Tech  (NEW)

24. Xavier  (-)

25. Creighton  (DOWN 2)
